Down at the Farm
News

This weekend sees
unique and educational farm initiative 'Down at the Farm'
celebrate its official opening with a tractor-load of family
fun on offer over 21st and 22nd July.
Down at the Farm is the first of its kind
in the Sunderland area, providing families and schools with
an interactive and informative learning experience and a wealth
of farm based facilities, accessible to all ages and abilities.
The 20-acre site in Houghton-le-spring has been planned to
incorporate the best of rural countryside just a stone's throw
from the cities of Sunderland and Durham.

Among a range of traditional species,
Down at the Farm will also be home to some more unusual
breeds such as red deer, wallabies and highland cattle.
Parents and children will have the
opportunity to learn how food is grown as well as getting
hands-on animal fun with a range of activities on offer
throughout the day - from brushing minature ponies,
feeding the animals or even washing the pig.
Not to be missed are Down at the
Farm's fantastic entertainers: Punch and Judy shows
will be held on Saturday and Sunday, as well as traditional
games such as the egg and spoon race and a chance to
soak the farmer with wet sponges at the end of the day.
|
|
Sunday will feature the farmer and his
wife telling stories for youngsters in the giant teepee.
Down at the Farm is a brand new farm experience located in
Sunderland just off the A690 - 2 minutes from Sunderland and
only 20 minutes from Newcaste and Durham. There is free parking,
a well appointed cafe, a children's adventure playground,
picnic area and baby changing facilities on site.
