General: Ireland is
the third-largest island in Europe. It lies in
the Atlantic Ocean and it is composed of the Republic
of Ireland (officially named Ireland), a state
which covers five sixths of the island (south,
east, west and north-west), and Northern Ireland;
part of the United Kingdom, which covers the northeastern
sixth of the island.
Currency: EURO - The
Irish pound (Irish: punt) was the currency of
the Republic of Ireland until 1999. The Irish
pound was superseded by the euro which began circulation
at the beginning of 2002.
Language: IRISH - The
language is sometimes referred to in English as
Gaelic or Irish Gaelic. This has generally been
the common name for the language in the Irish
diaspora.
