General: Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (in Sinhala, in Tamil; known as Ceylon before 1952) is a predominantly Buddhist island nation in South Asia, located about 31 kilometres (18½ mi) off the southern coast of India. It is often popularly referred to as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. It is home to more than 18 million people.

Currency: The rupee is the official currency of Sri Lanka, divided into 100 cents. The currency code is LKR. It is issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and is generally written ? (though SL? may occasionally be used for disambiguation).

Language: Sinhala - (also referred to as Sinhalese; earlier referred to as Singhalese) is the mother tongue of the Sinhalese, the largest ethnic group of Sri Lanka. It belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indoeuropean languages.

Tamil - is a classical language and one of the major languages of the Dravidian language family. Spoken predominantly by Tamils in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Singapore, it has smaller communities of speakers in many other countries. As of 1996, it was the eighteenth most spoken language, with over 74 million speakers worldwide. It is one of the official languages of India, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
